Community Woodlands Projects

One of our main aims at Woodlands.co.uk is to get more people into woodlands, including those people and groups who can't afford to buy their own wood. For the last 2 years we have been running a community woodlands project and in that space of time we have had more than 500 requests from people who wish to use woodlands for activities involving the local community. We now have people who use our woods for children's groups, scouts, forest schools, social forestry, bushcraft courses, woodlands management demonstrations, off-road horse riding organisations, orienteering and coppicing.

As we have received such a large number of enquiries, we have decided to set up a forum to put community groups in touch with other woodland owners who would be interested in allowing their woodland to be used in this way.

Are you a woodland owner?

Below are some of the projects requiring woodland. You may also wish to read our advice on hosting a project in your woodland.

We are looking for a Wood to initially practice running bush craft and conservation activities, with the view to a long term plan of developing a social enterprise where we incorporate the two. My friend has just qualified as a forest schools practitioner and IOL Bush Craft practitioner and we both have over 10 years experience in conservation and habitat management. We would ideally like the use of a woodland within North Staffordshire but would be willing to travel to any suitable site in the Staffordshire area. All risk assessments would be completed prior to any activity and all work carried out would be discussed and agreed with land owners. Can you help to develop our business and turn your wood into a profitable well managed habitat for Wildlife and the Community? Look forward to hearing from you soon Craig More details

Woodland in Buckinghamshire for woodland crafts in return for woodland management or rental

I am seeking the use of woodland in Buckinghamshire to teach Outdoor Living Skills, Natural History and Woodland Crafts. I’m a qualified Bushcraft instructor, I hold a current first aid certificate and I’m CRB checked. A ‘Certificated Practitioner’ with the Institute of Outdoor Learning, I also maintain public liability insurance for the protection of students and the woodlands where I teach. What would I like to do in the woodland? •	Use it as an outdoor classroom; creating a rich learning environment •	Erect a parachute between trees to create sheltered classroom area •	Have a small campfire for brews / cooking; firewood brought in for this •	Camp overnight; under tarps, in hammocks or small tents What would the expectations be as regard use of the woodland? •	Minimal impact on the woodland environment; no obvious evidence of use •	No trees would be cut unless otherwise agreed e.g. as management plan •	Materials used for crafts, etc would be brought into the woodland •	Pedestrian access into the woodland; working towards 4x4 vehicle access Why might you be interested and what would you gain? I would: •	Provide a rental income when I run courses in the woodland •	Assist with any woodland management plans you may have •	Protect and improve the biodiversity and habitat value of the woodland •	Provide labour and materials to install access if required www.davidwillis.biz - Thank you. Initially we would be looking for a site for practice and to run not-for-profit coaching courses for which would be fully insured. The SPTA promotes traditional archery styles from all around the world, from English Longbow to the bamboo archery of Bhutan. Archery is a very safe sport practiced by thousands of people every week.
