SOLD: Butterwall Wood £79,000 Freehold

The ground here is predominantly level and well drained making for easy access throughout the woodland. Stoned tracks run along the south and east boundaries which provide further enhanced access for any proposed forestry projects or timber extraction in these parts.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

The thick green cover of large holly bushes provides natural screening and marks the entrance and parking at Butterwall Wood. From here a sweeping view of the wood slopes very gently away in front. The treeline is dominated by the imposing presence of veteran oak trees and their giant limbs stretching over the surrounding woodland. Tantalising glimpses of wildflowers on the woodland floor encourage exploration of the woodland amongst the thick hazel coppice.

Keen eyed visitors will note the presence of numerous animal tracks across the woodland floor. Crossing points at the edges of the draining channels are particularly evident and the burrowing of small mammals for setting up home in the shelter of the wood can be seen at the base of trees and in sheltered banks. Deer are frequently found roaming here and taking cover during harsh weather.

Access, tracks and footpaths

The boundaries of Butterwall Wood are clearly defined by the woodland tracks running along three sides. A footpath runs along the access track at the southern boundary but does not pass within Butterwall Wood itself.

Local area and history

This delightfully rural area to the west of Gloucester towards the Forest of Dean and the Wye valley is made up of fertile farmland and tracts of woodland, interspersed with small villages. Huntley village is within a short walk of the woodland which takes its name from Butterwall Brook which runs nearby.
