SOLD: Foxtail Wood £79,000 Freehold

Description

The fringes of the wood are screened by thick undergrowth and grasses such as the meadow foxtail from which the wood takes its name. This thriving natural barrier at the woods edge lends a secluded and private feel to the wood, where hidden clearings make ideal places to become immersed in the peace and tranquillity of the woodland environment.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

Trees

Numerous tree types can be found at Foxtail Wood. The generous shade of a large beech marks the entrance in to the woods, where Douglas Fir, sweet chestnut and oak are all present within a delightful mixed woodland setting intersected by pathways passing through the lush summer growth.

Wildlife

The wood is a living ecosystem, alive with the sights and sounds of thriving wildlife. From the insects that live in the decaying stumps of old trees to the mammals that create identifiable foraging pathways through the undergrowth on the woodland floor. In particular the attraction for water fowl, drawn by a nearby pond fills the air with the chatter of wild duck and the distinctive honking of the Canada Goose.

Access, tracks and footpaths

The boundaries of Foxtail Wood are clearly defined by the access tracks leading to the wood and the private internal track that leads into the wood and runs along its northern edge. From this track there are a number of places to park and venture deeper into the woods.

Rights and covenants

The covenant that applies to the woodland is an important benefit for a new owner to give long term peace of mind that they and other neighbouring owners will be able to enjoy their land without disturbance from inappropriate activity.

Local area and history

Nearby Winchester was a centre of ecclesiastical and political power for many centuries during the middle ages. The entire surrounding area including Durley, was firmly under the control of the Bishops and much of the land in the area was bestowed as favours to local dignitaries. These days the woodland is a much valued enclave, where nature and wildlife can flourish yet still be within easy reach of nearby population centres of the south coast.
