SOLD: Ostler Wood £39,000 Freehold

Description

It is difficult to equate the tranquility of the woodland environment at Ostler Wood in this delightful area of Gloucestershire with the pace of modern life that can consume us. Such easy access to seclusion and nature just a few miles from the main road network and our daily human existense seems a stark contrast made more obvious once enveloped within the wood.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

Trees

Ostler Wood is easily accessible along a newly renovated length of woodland track suitable for most vehicles that leads directly to the entrance to the wood. There is plenty of space to park here within the boundary of the wood. Continue the exploration into the inviting tree cover beneath the generous sheltering canopy of predominantly mature oak trees that are such a classic symbol of English woodland. Further interest and diversity is added by the occasional conifer.

Once within the wood the ground is well drained and firm underfoot. Level ground makes for easy access throughout and the gentle mounds of ancient banks and ditches can be made out at various points running through the wood between clusters of holly and hazel coppice that provide important diversity at various points throughout Ostler Wood.

The keen eyed will also notice the unlikely presence of the crab apple tree in Ostler Wood. A symbol of love and fertility, its fruits are ideal for making jelly but also as a natural source of pectin for jam making.

Wildlife

The rural setting of Ostler Wood provides a home to a variety of wildlife that forages across surrounding open fields and shelters in the privacy of the wood during the daylight hours or when the weather turns.

Features

Even in winter when the woodland is in its dormant state it is easy to appreciate the beauty of this natural environment and sense the joy of anticipation for the spring reawakening when the woodland will burst into colour and life.

Access, tracks and footpaths

A rural footpath runs along the track outside the western boundary of the wood

Local area and history

Fertile Gloucestershire farmland provides an idyllic backdrop for the sheltered woodland but provides easy access to extensive services and supplies available in the cathedral city of Gloucester. The Kings Head in Birdwood is located conveniently close to the wood for well earned refreshment and the wood is named after the stable groom that in times past would look after the horses for travellers staying at the Inn.
