SOLD: Riverine Wood £65,000 Freehold

Mature conifer reaches skyward as a sweeping woodland vista takes in the gentle natural curves of a river channel and illuminated shards of light from the open field boundary penetrate the still of the forest. The stream tumbles through lush vegetation as it wends its way across the forest floor. Over time this water course has carved a deep winding gulley into the landscape and now provides habitat for shady forest ferns, delicate wild flowers and timid woodland creatures such as the water vole.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

Venture further into the woodland and you descend into the natural gulley cut into the forest floor by centuries of water gushing through these channels. Although in dry times of year this stream can diminish to just a few pools, for much of the time it flows through the wood and provides an important habitat in the mossy banks that lines its course. Water voles, badgers and deer have set up home in this hospitable riverine environment after which the wood is named. The abundant wildlife moves freely with the protection of the thick woodland to the adjacent open countryside that borders it.

From the entrance small tracks wend their way down to the stream where an old wooden bridge can be found to access the far side of the valley.

Whilst exploring these tracks you will come across a bench, please do take some time to sit here and ponder. On a sunny day this is a wonderful place to pass the time.

Access, tracks and footpaths

A length of newly improved private track leads through surrounding woodland to the entrance to Riverine Wood.

Local area and history

This access route into the woods was originally constructed by the Ministry of Defence for the purpose of timber extraction as a valuable resource for the War effort. Much of the land was then subsequently replanted with the woodland that is seen here today.

Location map

From the town of Bruton follow the A359 towards Frome until bearing right as you exit the town onto the Brewham Road. Continue out of the town with the railway line on your right hand side for a mile or so as the road becomes Pinkwood Lane and there is woodland on both sides of the road. After a further few hundred metres you will see a 'Woodlands For Sale' sign and metal entrance gates leading onto a woodland track.

These gates are kept locked but prospective purchasers can contact Daniel on 07780 900192 for the combination padlock code to allow vehicle access or can walk from this point taking care not to obstruct the gates.

Approaching from Frome and the north, head south on the A359 until a right turn at a rusty signpost reading 'North South' onto Hassock's Lane. After a few hundred yards bear right onto Hutchin's Lane and proceed for a further few hundred metres until the road bears sharply to the right at Batt's Farm. From here continue down Pinkwood Lane for a few hundred metres until the entrance gates and 'Woodlands For Sale' sign on your right.

Follow the woodland track up hill into the woods and refer to the plans below for the exact location of Riverine Wood on your left hand side after approximately 850 metres or so as you follow the loop of the track round to the left.
