Track and clearing at the entrance
The winter wood
Fragile mosses cling to a trunk
Along the south boundary
A place to pause
Green woodland floor
Tracks and distant views beyond
Follow the cleared pathways through the wood as they wind beneath the tree cover and enjoy the still and quiet of Rosebay Wood, where there is little interference from humankind. The winter wood affords tantalising glimpses of rolling Somerset hills beyond the cover of bare trees, standing ready for the first warming spring sunlight to reawaken the dormant wood from its wintery slumber.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
Thick areas of maturing oak and birch populate Rosebay Wood. In parts more recent planting is beginning to take hold and in established areas a sea of vivid green moss flourishes in the clean air of this unspoilt woodland environment, clinging to the tree trunks and woodland floor.
Elsewhere occasional conifer and hazel coppice punctuate the forest of oak trees.
Open clearings at the top of a private track offer an attractive habitat for various flowering shrubs and wildflowers that flourish in these sunny verges, In particular the pioneer plant Rosebay willowherb catches the eye with dramatic pink flower spikes in summer. Unflatteringly it is also called Fireweed but is an attractive addition to the woodland flora.
Access, tracks and footpaths
A well made track leaves the highway and follows a gentle incline to the entrance to Rosebay Wood. From here a further grassy track heads north along the entire western boundary of the wood. This private track is for the exclusive benefit of Rosebay Wood as it falls within the boundary. From here a number of access points lead into the tree cover and the remnants of an old logging track runs off at an angle.
There are no public rights of way within the wood.
Local area and history
Nearby Bruton has a long history as a rural settlement by virtue of a strategic location alongside the river Brue, which takes its name from the old Celtic word 'briw' meaning vigour. This small market town offers plenty of opportunity for refreshment after days or nights spent enjoying the woods.
Indicative boundary markings are marked in orange on posts and trees running through the wood to the north and east and along the access tracks to the south and west.

From the town of Bruton follow the A359 towards Frome until bearing right as you exit the town onto the Brewham Road. Continue out of the town with the railway line on your right hand side for a mile or so as the road becomes Pinkwood Lane and there is woodland on both sides of the road. After a further few hundred metres you will see a 'Woodlands For Sale' sign and metal entrance gates leading onto a woodland track.
These gates are kept locked but prospective purchasers can contact Daniel on 07780 900192 for the combination padlock code to allow vehicle access or can walk from this point taking care not to obstruct the gates.
Approaching from Frome and the north, head south on the A359 until a right turn at a rusty signpost reading 'North South' onto Hassock's Lane. After a few hundred yards bear right onto Hutchin's Lane and proceed for a further few hundred metres until the road bears sharply to the right at Batt's Farm. From here continue down Pinkwood Lane for a few hundred metres until the entrance gates and 'Woodlands For Sale' sign on your right.
Follow the woodland track up hill into the woods and refer to the plans below for the exact location of Rosebay Wood, which will be found after approximately 350 metres on your right where you will observe the orange boundary markings and sign bearing the name.
