  • Bayford, Hertford, Hertfordshire
  • nearly 1 ¾ acres
  • East Anglia

Description

Burt Wood offers the Woodlander a perfect start to owning a small easily manageable wood that is ideal for family forestry. Located just short drive from the town of Hertford, Burt Wood is accessed via a stone road from the highway past pony paddocks to the main entrance of a larger privately owned woodland that Burt Wood forms part.

Upon entering the main woodland a world of peace and tranquility envelopes you, the nearby towns left far behind as birdsong replaces traffic noise. A bird survey undertaken in 1988 identified a wide variety of species including wren, willow warbler, robin, blackbird song and mistle thrush, blue marsh, coal and great tit, both great and green woodpeckers as well as game birds including pheasant and woodcock.

A good hardcore track suitable for most vehicles meanders nearly a third a mile through beautiful woodland to the entrance of Burt Wood giving excellent access.

Burt Wood is classified as Ancient Semi Natural Woodland (ASNW) this designation indicates this is a site of woodland dating back to at least 1600AD. The woodland is steeped in history and once formed part of the Bayfordbury Estate.

The woodland understory is open and clear allowing clusters of bluebells. These are a favourite food for the resident muntjac deer. These secretive small deer are found throughout the woodland and great fun can be had trying to spot them before they spot you. The woodland is also home to foxes and badgers.

The woodland has some dense understory in parts providing privacy if you decide to set up camp. Woods of this size are rare in this location and hardly ever come to the market especially this close to London. The wood provides a perfect countryside retreat for anyone looking to escape city or town life and immerse themselves in a woodland.

Named after Sergeant Alfred Alexander Burt VC, a soldier in the Hertfordshire Regiment who was born and lived in Hertford. He was awarded the Victoria Cross for his valour on 27 September 1915 during the Battle of Loos.

Conveniently located being only three miles south west from the town of Hertford and a short distance from both the M25 and M1.

Particulars and plans were prepared by our local manager, Matt Marples

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
