SOLD: Thunor Wood £49,000 Freehold

Description

Thunor Wood is a wonderfully secluded semi mature mixed area of natural woodland.

Access is via an excellent stone track suitable for most vehicles. On arriving at Thunor Wood you feel a sense of calm that comes from being surrounded by nature. The woodland has a field to the south and a meadow to the north which ensures the woodland is light and therefore extremely lush. Whilst the eastern and western boundaries are bordered by other areas of privately owned woodland.

From the entrance an old ride system divides the woodland into easily manageable areas. A variety of trees from ash, sweet chestnut and oak tower over an understory of hazel and blackthorn. The southern field edge has grown into a thick hedge providing privacy. Look carefully at this hedge and you will notice deer runs known as racks where deer have made access routes to the field.

A herd of fallow deer frequent the larger area of woodland of which Thunor Wood forms part. Other wildlife often seen include foxes and badgers whilst above in the canopy it is home to owls, buzzards and woodpeckers to name but a few.

For those that enjoy actively managing their woodland some areas are dense and would be ideal for a thinning over the next few years providing a good supply of firewood. Additionally an area of established hazel stands could be coppiced which will provide a source of material for green woodcraft.

Should the owner desire the established rides could be widened to create a small glade, this would then create an ideal camping area hidden away within the woodland. Alternatively for those who prefer a more laid back approach simply sit back and relax and let nature take care of the woodland.

Suffolk was the heartland of the English Saxons and Thunor Wood is named after the Saxon god Thunor. Thunor or Thor as he is now known is the god of thunder but was also seen as the protector of humanity against threats. His symbol, the hammer, was worn by many common people as a protection. The Saxon gods still have a mark on our lives today Thursday is named after Thunor .

The woodland is only five miles north from the town of Ipswich and a short distance from both the A12 and A14 however feels very rural and offers owners a perfect countryside retreat.

Particulars and plans were prepared by our local manager, Matt Marples

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
