## Description

<p>This is a wonderful woodland, thick with birch, alder and holly amongst many others.  The land is level and though there are some tracks cut through, it is dense with vegetation and further paths could be created while explorers the hidden qualities of this diverse woodland.</p> <p>A dry stone boundary wall stretches the length of the wood and on the other side of this wall is a handy stream with a good flow of water: an attractive and valuable asset in any woodland.</p> <p>The woods are very private and blessed with the sound of silence, allowing the woodland owner time and space to enjoy nature at its best, unsullied by human activity. There is a great deal of biodiversity within these woods, with many of the hallmarks of ancient woodland present, even though the wood is currently in a regenerative cycle. The location will make these woods extremely sought after and early viewing is reccommended.</p> 

### Trees

<p>A lovely mixed species woodland with a high number of holly and alder specimens. Holly is a native species that provides good cover for nesting birds with the berries being a vital source of food for birds and small mammals such as wood mice.</p> 

### Wildlife

<p>This is a vibrant and wild woodland with very little human disturbance, ensuring that it is a diverse habitat for woodland creatures big and small.  Well placed wildlife cameras would open up its secrets.</p> 

### Features

<p>A fine stream runs adjacent to the woodland that will be a magnet for all manner of creatures, as well as being the perfect water source for woodland owners.</p> 

### Access, tracks and footpaths

<p>The access tracks are due to be upgraded, it is not advisable to drive on any of the tracks until work has been completed as it could damage the underside of vehicles.</p>

### Local area and history

<p>Burgie Woods are close to Forres which  is a town and former <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_burgh">royal burgh</a> in the north of Scotland on the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/County_of_Moray">Moray</a> coast, approximately 25 miles (40 km) northeast of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inverness">Inverness</a> and 12 miles (19 km) west of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elgin,_Moray">Elgin</a>. There are many geographical and historical attractions nearby such as the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_Findhorn">River Findhorn</a>, and there are also classical, historical artifacts and monuments within the town itself, such as Forres Tolbooth and Nelson&#39;s Tower. <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brodie_Castle">Brodie Castle</a>, the home of the Brodie Clan, lies to the west of the town, close to the A96.</p> <p>Findhorn Bay witnessed a brief episode in the 1745 Jacobite rising. In March 1746 the French brigantine Le Bien Trouv&eacute; entered the tidal waters with dispatches for Bonnie Prince Charlie but her departure, with the Prince&#39;s aide-de-camp on board, was delayed by the arrival of two British men-o&#39;-war.</p>

<ul> <li>From Inverness take the A96 to Forress</li> <li>Continue through Forress staying on the A96</li> <li>About two miles out on the way to Elgin take a right hand turn signposted to Glenburgie Distillery and Califer viewing point</li> <li>Go past the distillery and through some farm buildings and continue up the hill</li> <li>There is an entrance to the woodland track on the right hand side, please park here</li> <li>Walk approx. 150m to the track on the right.</li> <li>Continue through the wood for 50m and the ridestop entrance is on the left.</li> </ul>
