## Description

<p>Briane Wood has its own private entrance off the main road as well as being accessed through the main entrance to the greater Gateside Wood, where there is ample shared parking for several cars.</p> <p>The woodland sits slightly higher than the surrounding land, offering excellent views across what is a well wooded area and countryside. Though bordering a narrow road, this does not impinge upon the tranquility of the wood.</p> <p>An existing ride leads to a central clearing that would be perfect for camping or the siting of a woodland shelter, nestled amongst a grove of fine oak trees.</p> <p>Towards the south western boundary is an electricity wayleave that has been left to grass and would be perfect for developing into wild flower meadowland or for use as pasture. The wood adjoins onto farmland here with an old beech hedge marking this boundary.</p> <p>The planting thrioughout the wood has been well thought out with a good mix of species and is well worth a visit.</p> 

### Trees

<p>The majority of trees in the greater Gateside Wood were planted in 1999, with a good mix of deciduous and conifer. Briane Wood however is solely deciduous with a large number of oak and sycamore, amongst others.</p> 

### Wildlife

<p>Wildlife is abundant within the woods of Gateside, the diversity of trees will draw in a variety of birdlife as will the fast running stream that dissects the greater woodland. Towards the south of the woods is an area of peatbog rich in ecological treasures.</p> 

### Features

<p>Briane Wood has a large open area at its centre that would be perfect for camping expeditions, there is also a wayleave that would be well suited for development into a wildflower meadow..</p> 

### Access, tracks and footpaths

<p>There is a direct access off the public road  and also a second shared entrance into the main woodland with plenty of parking.. There is an open internal ride into the wood with a central clearing.</p> 

### Rights and covenants

<p>All sporting rights are sold with the wood however mineral rights are held with the Coal Board as is standard for decommissioned mining sites.</p> 


As is the case for all our woodlands, the purchaser will be asked to enter into a <a href='/buying-a-wood/covenant/'>covenant</a> which serves to protect the peace and quiet of the woodland.

Briane Wood could be easily managed and shaped in any number of directions, from enhancing the existing planting to increasing the diversity of the meadow land.</p> 

### Local area and history

<p>Gateside Woodland sits directly next to the small ex-mining village of Standburn, with the closest town being Falkirk about 6 miles away.</p> <p>Falkirk sits on the junction of the Forth and Clyde and Union Canals and as such became an important trade route and hub of heavy industry in the 18th and 19th centuries. The steel industry was dominant as was coal mining, necessary to feed the engine of industrialisation. The area is now more dependant on tourism and retail with many old mining sites reverting to woodland.</p> <p>Nearby attractions include the Falkirk Wheel and The Helix , home of the famous Kelpie art installation.</p> <p>Edinburgh is only twenty miles away and Glasgow 30 miles making these woods very accessible from the city.</p>

### Directions

<ul> <li>Coming in from the M9.</li> <li>Take the A801 heading towards Armadale</li> <li>At the first roundabout take the B825 heading towards Avonbridge.</li> <li>The woods are just past the village of Standburn on the left.</li> <li>Park by the metal gate but in a way that does not restrict access.</li> </ul>
