SOLD: Castle Vale Wood £35,000 Freehold

A private and peaceful mature woodland set high up in the Mid-Wales countryside.

From the upper reaches of the woodland there are sweeping views east, and from lower down in the wood the views stretch south over the River Ithon which runs below the wood, alongside the A483.

Castle Vale Wood is an ancient woodland site situated on a west-facing slope. Its grassy slopes are fairly easy to negotiate even off the paths. There are areas of well spaced mature European larch and Noble fir and some wonderful old oaks with swathes of bluebells in the spring. On our visits there the wildlife was thriving, with buzzard hawks, badgers and a fox.

As you come into the woodland, through the wooden gate and follow the path up the grassy slopes, through the well spaced and majestic larch you will come to a large hard standing area cut into the hillside. Here is an ideal spot, surrounded by mature trees but with views out as well, for camping, picnicking or any other woodland activities.

Higher up in the wood there is a smaller flat clearing with great views out east over pasture and hills, perfect for quiet contemplation!

Just behind the wood there are the ruins of Castelltinboeth, a medieval fort and castle on the site of an Iron Age hillfort, and the only castle in Radnorshire with any structural remains.

The market towns of Llandrindod Wells and Rhayader are both within easy reach of the woodland with various pubs, shops and B&Bs. The Red Kite Feeding Station can be found on the outskirts of Rhayader, and Glyndwr's Way, a National Trail named after the fifteenth century folk hero Owain Glyndwr, passes close to the wood.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
