Description
Coed Nyddu lies on a wide north and east facing slope, right in the centre of the larger woodland Coed Rhydtir, and is at a high enough elevation at its southern boundary to afford some wonderful extensive views out to the north and east.
The entrance to the wood is on its southern boundary, with a sizeable level parking area with ample room for creating an area to camp, taking advantage of the views, or for a timber stacking area, or both! There is plenty of room here for a number of woodland activities from whittling to green woodworking.
Surrounded on all sides by woodland, there is a real sense of escape from the outside world here, and it being a young, regenerating woodland there is scope to shape it the way you want it with supplemental planting and the creation of stepped paths perhaps to navigate the steeper areas.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
Trees
The regenerating growth in Coed Nyddu has been quick since the extraction of the previous conifer crop.
Young growth includes a lot of birch, notably a pioneer species which provides good cover and shelter for slower growing oak, as well as cherry, beech, sycamore, rowan and hazel. Also present are some young conifer including Douglas fir.
A large sequoia has been left to grow on, at the easternmost point of the woodland and there are some more mature sycamore, some multi stemmed, growing along the track on the eastern boundary. There is an attractive pair of maturing beech at the north eastern corner of the wood.
Wildlife
Red kite can be seen wheeling above the woodland, and of course being so close to the coast there are a number of sea birds to be seen here too. Woodpeckers can be heard frequently.
The new growth and scrubby cover in Coed Nyddu provide excellent cover and habitat for many species of birdlife and small woodland dwelling creatures such as voles and woodmice.
There is a large badger sett present further afield in Coed Rhydtir.
Features
Coed Nyddu's hillside position affords it wonderful views out over the landscape to the north and east.
Access, tracks and footpaths
Access to Coed Nyddu is up a stoned forest track with some steep sections which we would advise is only suitable for four wheel drive vehicles. However access to the larger woodland Coed Rhydtir, of which Coed Nyddu is a part, is directly off the A487 and easily accessible to all vehicles all year round.
There are no public footpaths through Coed Nyddu or the larger woodland Coed Rhydtir.
Just north of Coed Rhydtir, it's possible to access a public footpath which links to the Wales Coastal Path at the northernmost tip of Aberystwyth.
Activities
Potentially a great camping base for further exploration of the wonderful Ceredigion coastline.
In this young regenerating woodland there are opportunities for establishing some coppice for a sustainable supply of useable pole sized timber or for charcoal or fuel.
Great opportunities for nature and bird watching too!
Local area and history
Aberystwyth is a buzzing university town with all amenities, good food and bars, and with its famous long Victorian seafront promenade and Wales' longest pier.
Up on Constitution Hill, at the north end of Aber is the cliff top Camera Obscura.
Ten miles or so inland are the world famous Devil's Bridge Falls and you could even get there on a steam train with The Vale of Rheidol Railway !

Directions
From Aberystwyth, travel north on the A487 towards Bow Street or Talybont.
Continuing downhill on the A487, just after the turning to Penrhyncoch, signposted off to the right, you will see a large pull in on the left and the entrance to the woodland with a Woodlands for Sale signboard.
Park here and continue into the woodland on foot.
Follow the access track into the woodland and then take the left fork up the short steep slope. Follow this track straight ahead until you see the entrance to Coed Adain ahead of you, and then take the right hand turn up the slope. Continue along this track until you see the entrance to Coed Nyddu on your right, marked with a ridestop and wooden name board.
