Description
Coed Taliesin is a pretty woodland with picturesque nooks and rocky crags with grasses and ferns growing between. The main access track forms the eastern boundary of Coed Taliesin and from here the woodland slopes down to the western boundary overlooking fields.
A shortish distance along the main access track, a track leads off to the left and into Coed Taliesin, providing a place to pull in a vehicle and perhaps create a small camping area. This is a pretty area surrounded by graceful larch. There are various specimens of broadleaf in the woodland beyond, characterful twisty oaks, red berried rowan, and craggy areas of rock breaking up the western slopes of the woodland down to the fenced boundary, making fun places for younger woodlanders to explore and hide. Mosses and ferns, including hard fern and male fern, and various grasses thrive here.
Continuing up the slope in a northerly direction, through more well spaced larch, the land levels off at the far end of Coed Taliesin and the tree cover clears, resulting in an open level area with views north over the beautiful Ceredigion hills towards Moel y Garn. This would make a fantastic camping spot.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
Trees
The southern quarter of Coed Taliesin is fairly level in parts, and this area down to the western boundary sees the majority of the woodland's broadleaf, a mix of oak, rowan, some ash together with hazel and holly here and there, and extending northwards along Coed Taliesin's western boundary, some beech. For the most part, the rest of Coed Taliesin is made up of larch, well spaced and well grown.
Wildlife
There is a wide variety of bird life here in the secluded reaches of Ceredigion, including sea birds as it is only a couple of miles from the coastline at Borth. Just a few miles further north is the Cors Dyfi Nature Reserve sited at the mouth of the Dyfi Estuary which is home to the Dyfi Osprey Project .
Buzzards and red kite can be seen over head, circling in the thermals.
Features
At the northern end of Coed Taliesin is a lovely open area allowing long views out north/northwest over the beautiful hills toward Moel y Garn.
Access, tracks and footpaths
An accessible woodland, a short distance along a good shared access track from the gated entrance off a minor road, and then a short length of grassy track leads into the wood, as a pull in for a vehicle.
There are no public footpaths through Coed Taliesin.
Activities
Wonderful opportunities for camping and family forestry here in a manageable, accessible wood in beautiful surroundings, and within a close distance of Cardigan coastline.
Local area and history
Coed Taliesin is named for one of Wales' most famous bards, Taliesin, the remains of whose burial place is reputed to be a couple of miles north of Talybont, and a mile east of the eponymous village Tre Taliesin. A famous myth tells the story of Taliesin's birth and his mother the beautiful sorceress Ceridwen.
Just west of there can be found the wonderful dunes of Ynyslas beach, and a little further south at Borth you may spot the petrified remains of an ancient forest previously buried in sand but gradually uncovered by storms since 2014.

Follow the A487 to the village of Talybont, approximately 7 miles from Aberystwyth or 10 miles from Machynlleth.
In the centre of Talybont you will see the Black Lion Hotel and White Lion pub side by side. Take the road up to the right of the Black Lion Hotel and follow this road for about 2 miles, going over a small stone bridge.
Continue on this road towards Bont Goch, taking the left fork BEFORE you pass the red telephone box on the left.
Follow the road uphill until after a short distance you will see a wooden gate on your left with a Woodlands for Sale sign on it.
Turn in and park up here, taking care not to block the gate and continue over the gate on foot. Follow the main track though the woodland until you see the entrance to Coed Taliesin after a short distance on your left, marked by a wooden name board and Woodland's for Sale sign.
