SOLD: Long Oak £59,000 Freehold

Perched in its elevated position, Long Oak has an airy and light atmosphere. The woodland extends along the spine of a long ridge, dropping down on the north slope to the valley bottom where the Afon Nant Cwm-tawel runs west to east, and as Long Oak is at the end of the track, you should be sure of seclusion in your hill top eyrie.

Oak makes up a large proportion of the tree species present, and there are some lovely mature specimens here. Also here in quantity are birch and some magnificent beech and the dappled light penetrating through to the forest floor encourage all manner of wildflowers to thrive here, campion, forget me not, bluebell, celandine and greater stitchwort amongst others.

The approach through the larger woodland from the main entrance is a long one, along good track, and travelling through this extensive woodland and past the reservoir adds to the feeling of getting away from it all. It's worth noting the last section of track up into Long Oak is steep and we would advise only accessible to a four wheel drive.

From the ridestop at the entrance to Long Oak, the track flattens out, widening at its end to provide a level base for camping, constructing shelter or any bushcraft activities such as green woodworking, or stacking firewood. It is also a wonderful place to sit and gaze out over the opposite and lower slopes of woodland, in springtime at the acid green of new oak foliage or at the golden hues in autumn, while listening to the astonishing range of birdsong present here. If den or camp building is more your thing, there are options for this amongst the trees on the more level areas above the track.

Down at the valley bottom, a public footpath runs through Cwm Tawel along the main access track from the entrance gate and continues through Long Oak, along the northern bank of the Afon Nant Cwm-tawel, exiting the wood at its westernmost point. It would be possible to construct a stepped path up from the riverbank in order to connect the upper and lower reaches of the woodland.

Carmarthen, with rail and bus connections and directly connected to the M4 is only 5 miles away and has all amenities.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

Location map

From Carmarthen take the A484 north for approximately 5 miles towards Cynwyl Elfed.

After passing Carmarthen Demolition yard (known locally as Barretts) with railway sleepers on the left, look out for the Rock and Fountain Inn (a white building) on the left and a small waney-edge timber clad shed just beyond, with a Woodlands for Sale sign on it, and the entrance gate is immediately between the two on the left.

Turn in carefully and enter the code into the gate lock and wait for the gate to open automatically. It will also close again automatically. (Please contact local manager before your visit for the code).

After a short distance you will come to a locked gate. Please park here and continue on foot.

Follow the track straight ahead and up the hill (passing a gate on the left hand side of the track-ignore this) until the track bends to the left and you come to a third unlocked gate with a woodland for sale sign on it. (On your right here, you will see a yellow public footpath marker indicating where the public footpath heads west, along the north bank of the Afon Nant Cwm-tawel.)

Continue through the gate and follow the track up to the RIGHT, and then take the right fork.

Continue along this track, up the hill, past the entrance to neighbouring woodland Bedwen Fach on the left, until you come to a ride stop marked with a wooden name board for Long Oak.

PLEASE NOTE: The postcode SA33 6TP takes you about 0.9 miles further along the A484 so look out for the entrance before being told you have reached your destination.
