Description
Woodlands in this area have proven to be very popular, especially for those looking to put a hut in the woods for amenity use. The land was once mined and then landscaped and planted up once mining was halted, with a good mix of deciduous and conifer species that on the whole have grown well, the obvious exception to this is ash ash die back. While there are no ash trees within Tandie Wood, the dominant sycamore is doing very well.
The woodlands are very quiet with very few visitors and nature to flourish! Very little has been done to Tandie Wood especially within the Sitka plantation; raising the canopy to create some trails would be an easy job well done for any future owner. Creation of sheltered glades where sunlight can reach the forest floor is the building block for increasing diversity. The protection afforded by the shelter off the bigger trees provides a nurturing environment for new species or ground flora or other diverse tree species.
There are plenty of places to camp within the wood and some open areas that could be planted up with species that would add to the woodlands diversity. These woods are understandably attractive to many buyers.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

Trees
Tandie Wood is dominated by a thick stand of Sitka spruce that will provide an abundant amount of quality timber in due course. Sitka makes up around half of commercial timber production in the UK and has many uses from paper to pallets. Though its dense canopy does not allow much in the way of other tree species it does provide cover for small mammals and during the creation of sheltered glades it would provide an abundant domestic fuel source.
Wildlife
There are plenty of signs of wildlife within Gateside woods from badgers to deer as well as an abundance of birdlife. These woods have very little human prescence and as such will be an attractive place for wildlife to congregate.

Ther is a stream that goes down the centre of Gateside woods adjacent to the track where all woodland owners will be able to draw water from.
Access, tracks and footpaths
The main access track has recently been repaired using onsite material, with plenty more available for woodlanders use.
Rights and covenants
All sporting rights are sold with the woodland. The mineral rights have been retained by the coal board but it is highly unlikely that these will now ever be exercised due to the waning uses of coal.

This wood will be perfect for camping with a number of secluded spots for adventures with all the family.
Local area and history
Gateside Woodland sits directly next to the small ex-mining village of Standburn, with the closest town being Falkirk about 6 miles away.
Falkirk sits on the junction of the Forth and Clyde and Union Canals and as such became an important trade route and hub of heavy industry in the 18th and 19th centuries. The steel industry was dominant as was coal mining, necessary to feed the engine of industrialisation. The area is now more dependant on tourism and retail with many old mining sites reverting to woodland.
Nearby attractions include the Falkirk Wheel and The Helix , home of the famous Kelpie art installation.
Edinburgh is only twenty miles away and Glasgow 30 miles making these woods very accessible from the city.

- Coming in from the M9.
- Take the A801 heading towards Armadale
- At the first roundabout take the B825 heading towards Avonbridge.
- The woods are just past the village of Standburn on the left.
- Park by the metal gate but in a way that does not restrict access.
- Following the track to bottom and bear right till you reach the end and Tandie Wood is on the right hand side.
