I picked up my first roadkill bird wing today in Fountain Colorado. I’m excited to dry it out and make something special with it. I haven’t been able to identify exactly what specific bird it was but your video has given great insights. Is Epsom Salt another appropriate medium as well as salt? I’ve also heard about Borax.

Very interesting video. Preserving part of an animal, feathers, hide, bone etc is something people have been doing for thousands of years, as well as eating them of course. Eating animals for most people is done with little thought for the process involved. Admittedly I don't eat road kill, but know some people do. I admire this and think they are smart. I too pick up dead animals and process them for my projects. Some people love it, others will hate it, I guess this is Marmite territory. Pheasant feathers as you say are very beautiful, I used to buy them. But now I am using the feathers from road kill I have found myself too. Part of that bird makes a wonderful display, covers a skull, they don't go to waste. I even bring back fresh road kill to feed the foxes who come into our garden every evening to save on buying food for them. Circle of life, morbid for some, natural and fascinating to others.
